P.E. / HEALTH
Health and Physical Education are a combine one year course that addresses the needs pertinent for students to achieve overall wellness. All topics are inline with the national standards and geared toward physical, mental, and social health. Students’ performance objectives are based on student needs and the academy’s expected School wide Learning Results.
SWIMMING
Beginning Swimming is designed to develop non-swimming skills into beginning and intermediate levels while recognizing the importance of physical activity and how it relates to physical health and condition. Through discussion and written material on specific skills students will be better able to apply these skills when implemented in the water. Applied skills will be critique and develop to the fullest ability of each student before moving on to new and more advanced skills.
TENNIS
Tennis is a course that builds the physical endurance of the student. It is designed to give the students an appreciation of fitness and its importance to good health. Tennis, in a progressive manner, teaches skills to students whose levels vary. For those students who have no tennis background, the course introduces basic strokes (forehand, backhand, ground strokes, volleys, and serves). Court etiquette, rules and scoring are also emphasized. For intermediate students, there is an emphasis on the development of consistency and accuracy, footwork and court positions, and singles and doubles strategies. The course also helps the more experienced tennis students to refine specialty strokes, spin shots, and develop physical and mental conditioning. More advanced students are used to work with the beginner students to build teamwork and a “buddy system” for teaching skills.
