Spanish 1 introduces students to basic communication, grammar and vocabulary, with a focus on daily life topics. Extensive practice through numerous and varied oral and written exercises set in a meaningful situational and personalized contexts take place daily. Students are exposed to a cultural variety of the Spanish-speaking world. The students are provided with the necessary skills to communicate at a basic level to advance to Spanish 2.


SPANISH II

Prerequisite: Spanish 1

Spanish 2 introduces students to more advanced communication, grammar and vocabulary structures. Practices of oral and written skills become more extensive. Students develop a more advanced knowledge of the culture and demonstrate grammatical and mechanical skills. The also have the necessary tools to advance to Spanish 3.


SPANISH III (HONORS)

Prerequisite: Spanish 2 with a minimum of B grade.

With the use of previously learned structures, new grammar and vocabulary are introduced. By continuing oral and written practices students develop fluency. They have the ability to control grammar structures such as verb forms for operating the past, present and future, basic pronoun forms, prepositions, frequent adjective forms, possessive forms, etc.


JAPANESE I

This course is an introductory course designed to develop speaking and listening proficiency to carry out simple everyday conversations, reading skills to comprehend short, simple written materials, and writing skills to write short memos and letters using appropriate Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji scripts.


JAPANESE II

This course designed to develop an intermediate-level of oral-aural skills to carry out conversations about familiar topics, reading skills to understand important information in authentic materials, and writing skills to convey information with grammatical and orthographic accuracy. Continued usage of Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji scripts will be stressed.


JAPANESE III (HONORS)

This course is designed to develop an intermediate to advanced level of aural-oral skills to carry out conversations on diverse topics including social and cultural phenomena with linguistic accuracy, wide range of vocabulary, and cultural appropriateness as well as reading skills to comprehend authentic materials and writing skills with grammatical accuracy and increasing number of Kanji. Continued usage of Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji scripts will be stressed.


EFL / ESL

EFL is a course that introduces the non-native speaker of English to basic grammar, practical day-to-day conversation, pronunciation and spelling. The class uses a textbook that emphasizes English in its spoken form with grammar supplements to enforce proficiency skills. Role-playing, pronunciation drills, spelling exercises, basic reading proficiency, and class discussions are requisites for successful completion of this course
